Laura Konttinen and Karl Ketamo
Alga Mirablis
Fotofestival Schiedam
18 October – 28 October

Laura Konttinen and Karl Ketamo’s piece Alga Mirablis will be shown at Fotofestival Schiedam.

In Alga Mirablis the viewer encounters a fictional character browsing YouTube video recordings of a strange phenomenon – a neon green, floating object that appeared out of nowhere in a river in a Finnish national park. Shortly after its appearance, YouTube has been flooded with witness videos and confused comments.

By exploiting popular media platforms, Google and Youtube, Alga Mirablis explores the ways we deem information reliable or questionable. With a tone of irony and humor, the work explores the line between fact and fiction and brings into question the ways in which online content can be created and interpreted.
