Hegemonia Saliva – Amy Gelera & Dominik Fleischmann

Hegemonia Saliva – Amy Gelera & Dominik Fleischmann

Hegemonia Saliva – A Visual Dialogue is a new exhibition by Amy Gelera & Dominik Fleischmann now on display at Galleria Uusi Kipinä in Lahti (22.09. – 10.10.2021).

Through the intersection of both of their practices and bodily and mental positions, Amy and Dominik discuss about decolonization practices through a visual dialogue. Nourished by their current conditions and experiences on Earth combined with their personal contrasting backgrounds. The dialogue unravels within a net of digital media, questions of global colonial powers and relationship between Europe and Latin America.

Amy Gelera (she/they) is a Graphic Designer and illustrator originally from Guatemala City, based in Helsinki. Throughout her academic life, she has studied in various parts of Europe and is currently studying Visual Communication Design (MA) at Aalto University. Her independent visual practice revolves around social dialogues concerning discrimination and decolonization– protest, irony, and humour are key elements of her critical approach.

Dominik Fleischmann (he/him) is a lens-based visual artist who grew up in a small village in Germany and studied photography in Berlin. He is now based in Helsinki after living in different animal sanctuaries across the globe while searching for happy endings on this journey of suffering in the relationship of humans and nature. Dominik draws inspiration from ecofeminism, poetry, and social- and environmental activism.

Photography Studies are part of the Department of Media at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland.
